Stone welcomes Highland Council’s decision to fly Rainbow Flag at Ness Pride
When Proud Ness was announced as the first LGBT+ event to be held in Inverness in more than 15 years, a petition attempted to prevent it from happening.
Rather than cancelling the event, the Highland Council has announced it will fly the Rainbow Flag on October 6th at both the Town House in Inverness and the Council’s headquarters on Gelnurquhart Road to show its support for the Proud Ness parade and events.
Commenting Jamie said:
“The Liberal Democrats will always protect and champion your right to be who you are, choose who you love and live in a society free from hate, fear or discrimination.
“However, these protests about the flying of the Rainbow Flag in Inverness show we still have a long way to go.
“The Proud Ness event gives us an opportunity to show that the Highlands is an inclusive and welcoming place to live and I am very pleased the Rainbow Flag will be flying over council buildings on Saturday.”
