Jamie Stone supports calls for a freeze on Scotch whisky duty
Jamie Stone has added his support to the Scotch Whisky Association’s call for the Chancellor to freeze duty on spirits in the upcoming budget.
The Scotch Whisky Association is collecting messages to the Chancellor in a whisky bottle to be presented to him ahead of the budget.
Commenting Jamie said:
“Scotch whisky is such a key industry in the Highlands and I am calling on the Chancellor to freeze the duty on whisky. The industry provides crucial jobs in some of the most remote parts of Scotland, including in my constituency. I value every one of these jobs and we want the industry to flourish.
“There are also clear links between the international success of Scotch whisky and the connotations of the Highlands as an unspoilt environment with a particularly special culture.
“Anything that undermines this industry worries me greatly – whisky is after all Scotland’s iconic drink!”
