Far North MP meets with Climate Protesters
Jamie has today met with climate protesters from his constituency as part of the Time Is Now campaign.
Thousands of people from all over the UK visited Westminster on 26th June to take the message straight to Parliament that a strong environment bill must be passed if we are to restore nature, cut plastic pollution and improve air quality.
Commenting Mr Stone said:
“It has been fantastic to see people travel from across the country to highlight the importance of climate action. I was especially pleased that constituents have made the effort to come down from Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross and applaud their commitment to tackling the climate crisis.
“Climate change poses a serious threat to the future of our planet and leading scientists have warned that we only have 12 years to make changes or risk major climate catastrophe.
“I welcome the Government’s commitment to set a target for net zero carbon emissions by 2050 but this is not enough, and these protesters are right to demand more from politicians.
“The Government needs to take this seriously, declare a climate emergency and reverse the damaging policies they are putting in place which threaten the environment, and they can start with a robust and ambitious Environment Bill.”
